Leonard Robinson, 51, of Ownings Mill, Md., apparently had an engine problem with his custom-made (batmobile) while traveling on Interstate 70 near Hagerstown.

He was on his way home from a vehicle show in West Virginia when his Batmobile broke down.

The Batmobile then hit Robinson, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver of the Camry was not injured in the crash that occurred in Big Pool, Maryland. But after his minor run-in with the law went viral (he was pulled over because his standard issue plates were custom-made with the Dark Knight’s symbol), he began to take his operation across the country.

He was dressed in a full superhero costume during his encounter with police.

Robinson, known as the “Baltimore Batman“, started visiting hospitals dressed as Batman 14 years ago in order to cheer up children.

Shortly before his death, Robinson had stopped at a gas station, where he met a family and gave the kids superhero paraphernalia.

“And that responsibility is to be there for the kids, to be strong for them, and to make them smile as much as I can”, says Robinson. Many hospitals and charities were calling him up to ask for visits.
