Police have charged Derren Sorrells and his brother, Darwin Sorrells Jr., in Nykea Aldridge’s murder. They’ve both been held without bail following a court appearance on Sunday.

Nykea Aldridge, 32, a mother of four, was pushing a baby stroller Friday afternoon on Chicago’s South Side when she was shot.
“When he comes out to his vehicle, now there’s two offenders armed with handguns who begin chasing him down and attempting to kill him”, said Brendan Deenihan, commander of Area Central Detectives. At a news conference on Sunday, Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie T. Johnson said that both men are gang members who were on parole for gun convictions.
Darwin Sorells was sentenced to six years in prison in January 2013 for a felony gun charge and was released from prison earlier this year. “The negotiations with the USA have effectively failed because we must not capitulate to the American demands as Europeans”, Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel said in Berlin. Police said security cameras at the Dulles School captured images of the suspects, and that a camera at the store across the street captured the two brothers following the 25-year-old who was allegedly the intended target. Police are now working to hash out specifics and verify stories, he said.
Earlier Trump was criticised for politicising the killing, and for spelling the National Basketball Association player’s name wrong, when he sent a Twitter message that read: “Dwayne Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. We need more help & more hands on deck”.
Johnson also said that Chicago residents should be frustrated and hopes that the arrests bring some sort of closure for the Aldridge and Wade families. He also linked her shooting death to a wave of violence that has been sweeping the Chicago’s South Side. The shooting left one dead, the Chicago Tribune said. Wade was not in Chicago on Friday, but joined an ESPN roundtable on Thursday about violence in Chicago.

“We’re still going to try and help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction so this thing won’t keep happening”, she said. That’s also more than 80 percent higher than at the same point in 2014, when the city ended the year with just over 400 homicides – the least in a half-century. On Saturday Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said in a campaign speech that the shooting illustrated why black voters would rally behind him, calling it an example of violence that Democrats have failed to address. “Just a life that’s gone too soon.” she said. Sunday night, family members of Aldridge came together to remember her at a vigil.
