A couple was allegedly forced to get down from an ambulance after their seven-year-old daughter died en route to a hospital in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Friday.

Barsha Khemudu of Ghusapalli in Malkangiri had died while her parents were transferring her from Mithali hospital to Malkangiri district hospital after her health deteriorated.

The ambulance driver allegedly asked the girl’s parents to get down after they came to know that the girl has died on the way to Malkangiri district hospital.

Noticing them, passersby contacted the local BDO and medical authorities, who sent an ambulance to carry the body of the child back to her village.

Malkangiri, Odisha: A week after the images of a man carrying his wife’s body on his shoulders in Odisha led to outrage in the entire country, the horror has returned.

CDMO Uday Shankar Mishra said an FIR has been lodged with Malkangiri police against the erring ambulance driver. “Stringent action will be taken against persons responsible for the incident”, Chakravarthy told reporters, adding the district administration has provided immediate financial assistance to the girl’s parents.

The letter was received yesterday.

Decribing the incident at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district as “unfortunate”, he said the state government would not “hide” anything about the incident. “The inquiry report has been submitted to the State government and it will submit the report to the PMO soon”, BJD spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb said. The case comes barely days after a man, Dana Majhi, again in Odisha, walked over 10km with his wife’s body following a hospital’s alleged refusal to offer a vehicle to transport them home.
