Wal-Mart to cut 7000 United States store back-office jobs
Walmart said the decision is part of its continued efforts to cut costs and put more people on the shop floor, after a pilot program announced in June did away with roughly 1,500 accounting, invoicing and other behind-the-scenes tasks at 500 USA stores. Walmart employs approximately 1.4 million people in the U.S.

Affected staff will be offered the opportunity to move to customer facing roles.
Wal-Mart has spent billions the past few years on efforts to improve in-store shopping. But the expenses continue to weigh on the retailer, so Wal-Mart is continuing to find ways to trim costs without affecting customers. “This is probably one way”.
The positions that would be eliminated at Wal-Mart related to managemet of an individual store’s daily cash flow or process claims from manufacturers delivering goods directly to stores, among other tasks.
Walmart is said to employ about 1.5 million people in the USA and has been making several changes to its operations of late.
The company said it was too soon to be specific about wage levels for the displaced workers.
Walmart said Wednesday that it’s cutting 7,000 positions. Jess Levin, communications director for Making Change at Wal-Mart, said the retailer has made a decision to “rollback jobs instead of prices” for Labor Day weekend.

Levin also added: “They could come with a higher salary, and also allowed a worker to be at a desk as opposed to on their feet all day”.
