The Italian Grand Prix is the home race for both Ferrari [NYSE:RACE] and tire supplier Pirelli and Monza perfectly suits the fiery passion of the Italian fans.

While Hamilton minimised the damage at Spa by coming through to finish third, if Mercedes introduces another new engine spec later in the season he would have to take more penalties to upgrade to that version.

A statement from Renault read: ” During the Belgian Grand Prix held at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday 28 August Renault Sport Formula One Team driver Kevin Magnussen exited the track at high speed. The last to win there three times in a row was Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio in 1953-55.

“Overtaking up front is very hard so pole position is definitely a good place to start, ” Hamilton said.

The victor at Monza has ended the season as champion in four of the last five years. Daniel Ricciardo was next in the other Red Bull, and Fernando Alonso overcame technical problems in gis McLaren Honda to place seventh.

Mexican Sergio Perez was fifth fastest for Force India, ahead of Romain Grosjean’s Ferrari-powered Haas and the Williams of Valtteri Bottas.

“We should even race here if there was a bad deal for whoever is cashing in – Monza has to stay on the calendar, because it means more than just cash, it means history, tradition, racing, enthusiasm, Ferrari”.

While the deal hasn’t been officially signed yet, Ecclestone said it’s just a matter of “small details” at this point.

“Maybe you will see me again at the wheel of a race vehicle, but at the moment the only certainty I have is that I will have a lot of time to decide on what I do in the future”, the Brazilian added.

“Our plans are to continue with him for next year, so I think we are pretty happy and we want to continue”.

The report said that a new three-year deal has now been agreed, which will be signed “when [Bernie] Ecclestone and [Italian automobile club president] Angelo Sticchi Damiani” get together, the source added.
