Chelsea have agreed terms to re-sign Brazil defender David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain, the two clubs announced on Wednesday.

“I’m delighted to return to Chelsea”, Luiz said on the club’s Chelsea’s website.

Chelsea have shocked the football world on transfer deadline day by re-signing David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain.

Antonio Conte has been desperately trying to bring in another centre-back this summer after starting the new season with just four fit senior defenders to choose from.

Spending by Premier League clubs has broken through the one billion pounds (US$1.3 billion) barrier in one window for the first time and English sides remained busy on deadline day. “I can not wait to wear the shirt and play at Stamford Bridge again”.

Luiz, 29, travelled to London for a medical as the Blues confirmed the signing of left-back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina for a reported £23m ($30 million).

In addition to Manchester City’s Mangala, Spanish side Valencia signed Argentina global centre-back Ezequiel Garay from Zenit St Petersburg for a reported 20 million euros.

However, there have to be concerns about Luiz’s form after he was recently humbled in a 3-1 loss to Monaco in which he was hauled off early into the second half having given away a penalty and he will need to step up in what is now an ultra-competitive Premier League.

Meanwhile, Juan Cuadrado has also officially left Chelsea for Juventus on a three-year loan with the option to buy.

Everton consoled themselves with a loan deal for West Ham United’s Ecuadorean forward Enner Valencia.

Spurs also bolstered their squad with the signing of 21-year-old winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou for an undisclosed fee on a five-year contract.

In addition to Hart, striker Wilfried Bony has been loaned to Stoke City, while defender Eliaquim Mangala has been loaned to Spanish club Valencia. He’s probably coming back a worse player than when he left.

He played a huge role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2012, scoring several key goals, including in the penalty shootout against Barcelona which saw the London club go through to the final.

Gabon midfielder Didier Ndong joined Sunderland from French side Lorient for 16 million euros ($17.8 million), the seventh signing by recently hired manager David Moyes.
