Osinbajo observed that due to modern technology anyone who wants to be criminally inclined or who is criminally minded has the equipment today to do a lot of damage.

Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), urged the police to adopt the concept of “smart-policing” as well as the use of technology to fight crimes in the country.

He announced that the federal government was already working on a programme of unifying all existing data bases, especially information on Nigerians everywhere.

“So it will be important for us to ensure that all of those data bases are able to speak to each other and that we are working from a unified data base”.

He described the Nigeria Police as one the best in the world saying, “I have worked with the law enforcement, I serve in the United Nations with the special operations in the Justice Centre of the UN mission in Somalia and the Nigeria Police was there, and were recorgnised as very effective, because they were well trained, better educated than every other police forces out there”.

Vice president Yemi Osinbajo has said the Nigeria Police Force is one of the very best in the world.

Emphasizing that the modern day policing is based on intelligence, technology rather than brutal use of force, Osinbajo said with ICT and biometrics technology, smart and fast investigation can be conducted at cheap costs by keying into the internet, where everything you need can be accessed in real time about businesses, organizations and other concerns. The challenge has been lack of equipment and welfare of the policemen.

He also said the project would keep the police ahead of criminals in the country, noting that with technology the police could check the prevalence of high level crimes.

They sated that the centre, when completed, would provide digital crime fighting facilities and accessibility to a one-stop data bank aimed at professionally profiling criminal elements with a view to changing the phase of crime data management in the Police Force.

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, said the erection of the N6 billion facility would bring the force’s operations to global standard in view of the sophistication of criminality in all spheres.
