Broad Street & Raymond Blvd in Newark is closed due to bus accident.

The crash will also affect the New Jersey Transit Light Rail, which will bypass the Military Park stop due to police activity.

Two Starbucks workers, who were opening the store less than a block away, said they heard the crash and ran to help the injured.

“I was standing at the bus stop down here when the 13 [bus] pulled down”.

“We have to make sure we clean up what’s happening down here and we have to clear the street and make sure business goes on as usual”, Baraka said. The extent of the injuries is not known.

The force of the crash almost split the No. 13 bus in half. One of the buses was broken almost in half.

NJ Transit Interim Executive Director Dennis Martin said both Barthelus and Roberts were “in good standing” with NJ Transit.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the investigation. One of the buses is on its side.

Emergency crews are on the scene removing people on stretchers from the bus that is on its side. Officials have not commented on the statement.

The buses involved in the accident are the No. 5612, driving from New York City to Orange, and No. 5784, heading from North Arlington to Newark Penn Station.
