Assuming that another album is set to drop this weekend, get hyped to hear nothing but Frank Ocean’s soothing voice for the rest of the year. Apple was said to have scored exclusive streaming rights to “Boys Don’t Cry”, and the album was apparently meant to debut on August 5. After the album was delayed, it was a much-needed surprise for fans, who learned that Ocean had finally released his new, highly anticipated album.
The buzz around Ocean and his new material was so great his debut returned to the Billboard 200 album chart after a three-year absence.
While many have reported that Endless is Ocean’s long-awaited new record, Rolling Stone confirmed it is in fact a separate project to his follow-up LP Blonde, which was initially believed to be called Boys Don’t Cry. With the likes of Beyonce, David Bowie, James Blake, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the Creator, Matt Mysko, and many more all having credits on the album. The artist staged pop-up shops on Saturday in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and London, where the album came accompanied with copies of a print publication, titled Boys Don’t Cry.
Ocean’s website was updated this morning with a mysterious image headed “blonde”, above a warped rendition of the words “Boys Don’t Cry”. “We’re not in love / But I make love to you / When you’re not here / I save some for you / I’m not him, but I mean something to you”, Ocean sings.
