Ryder Cup 2016: Jordan Spieth Says that Hazeltine Is ‘Our Next Major’

He started the playoffs at No. 14 and likely will fall out of the top 20.

Stenson won the 2013 FedEx Cup title, taking both the Tour Championship and Deutsche Bank Championship that year.

Day is the points leader, ahead of Johnson, Adam Scott, Russell Knox and Spieth, with McIlroy 35th in the standings.

While he has not won since May, Day is perfectly positioned. I know that one good week sets up my whole FedEx Cup at this point of the season.

So the first Olympic golf champion since 1904 has some work to do in the next three weeks because he must get into the top 30 to qualify for the Tour Championship.

The difficulty of this course and the depth of this field will make it hard for sleepers to creep their way up to the top of the leaderboard, but each and every week, there are those who do just that despite lower expectations. Rose will tee it up on Thursday at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York in a group with Zach Johnson and Kyle Reifers. As for the weather, it is expected to be dry all week. Vijay Singh is the only player to win The Barclays and go on to win the FedEx Cup.

Kisner is coming off a closing 63 at the Wyndham championship that elevated him to a tie for 10 place. The 23-year-old American has shown glimpses but consistency has been his biggest problem. It hosted another U.S. Open in 2009, when Lucas Glover won in a rain-delayed finish.

Five Australians headed by world No. 1 Jason Day have a chance to break the drought of Aussie winners of the US PGA Tour’s Fedex Cup as the playoffs begin this week. Day carded a bogey-free final-round 62 to finish six shots clear of Henrik Stenson.

Bubba Watson (24th): The two-time Masters victor, whose caddy is Lafayette native Ted Scott, tied for eighth in Rio and won in February in Los Angeles. Emiliano Grillo and Rickie Fowler were tied for second at 6-under. “It’s up there in the top few toughest courses I’ve ever played. Hopefully with the week off that I have after the third one, I’ll get some good rest and I’ll be able to fire in for the Tour Champs”.

Russell Knox and Jordan Spieth are the only two other players within 1000 points of Day’s lead though with points quadrupled for the four playoff tournaments, that is of little outcome. So I’m looking to putt a bit better. But he qualified for what may be his last FedEx Cup appearance – Toms turns 50 in January to be eligible for the Champions Tour. Obviously that’s huge for me.
