Gaffney, who works as the head pro at Quaker Ridge CC in Scarsdale, N.Y., shot an opening-round 71 (-1), and followed that up with an even-par 72 on Friday.

He became the first PGA Professional to make the cut at the PGA Championship since 2011, when Mike Small did so at Atlanta Athletic Club.
Gaffney got his round in just before a storm hit the area and play was suspended until tomorrow, so he will have to wait until Saturday to find out his playing partner and tee time.
On July 1, Gaffney finished tied for 20th at the PGA Professional National Championship, the event that determined the 20 to make the field at Whistling Straits.
His third-round 78 derailed any chance of finishing under par for the week.
“In that third round, I just had a train wreck in the middle of the round that I just couldn’t slow down, ” he said.
“I’m not going to lie, on 10 and 11 I felt a little nervous because they were a lot more fans”, Leonard said.
“I tried to get as much out of it as I could”.
“It’s going to be great, I would imagine”, Gaffney said.
