Yasiel Puig returns to Dodgers after demotion to minors

I’ve already discussed how Puig could fit with the Brewers in this space, so needless to say I’m thrilled with the fact that the Brewers rolled the dice and attempted to bring Puig into the organization. He received treatment and was hoping to be better by Saturday. The Padres (56-78) ended a three-game skid.

The Dodgers’ lead in the NL West remained at two games over the San Francisco Giants, who lost to the Cubs.

Clayton Kershaw, the ace pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be pitching for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in a rehabilitation assignment on Saturday, Sept. 3.

Then, Derek Norris lashed a two-run double off the left-field wall, giving the Padres a 2-1 lead. The rookie hit three batters, after hitting none in his previous 63 major league innings, yet he gave up only two runs on three hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Joc Pederson tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with his 19 home run of the season, but relief pitcher Adam Liberatore relinquished the tie surrendering a solo homer to Yangervis Solarte in the top of the eighth.

Pederson’s RBI single drove in Enrique Hernandez, who reached on a double, for a 1-0 Dodgers lead with one out in the fourth. Closer Brandon Maurer retired the side, clinching the upset.

Puig grounded out with the bases loaded in the third.

Padres starter Clayton Richard allowed one run and a season-high nine hits in five innings. In total, Urias hit three batters in the game-the first time a Dodger pitcher has done so since Carlos Monasterios on August 26, 2010-as he became just the third pitcher age 20 or under to hit three batters in one game. Now, he’s back on the Dodgers’ big league roster and in the lineup Friday night as the team takes on the Padres at Dodger Stadium.

Dodgers SS Corey Seager went hitless in four at-bats with a walk and a strikeout, extending his offensive slump to 0 for 19 – his longest drought of the season. Los Angeles recalled C-INF Austin Barnes, RHP Josh Fields and Puig from Triple-A Oklahoma City, and reinstated RHP Louis Coleman and Josh Ravin from the 15-day DL.

“We just needed a little bit more depth”, Padres manager Andy Green said. RHP Tyson Ross (right shoulder inflammation), out since April, was expected Friday night for two days of workouts with the team.

The game, which is also scheduled to include appearances by two other Dodgers, Brett Anderson and Andre Ethier, is sold out.

Kershaw is expected to pitch the first three innings or approximately 50 pitches.

Kershaw was sidelined more than two months due to a herniated disk problem in his back. “But I don’t think a blister can be willed to stay healthy, no matter how much will he has”, Roberts said, according to the Los Angeles Times, regarding the team’s decision to push back Hill’s start”. Luis Perdomo gets the ball, and he’s 7-7 with a 5.84 ERA and 87 strikeouts this season. He is coming off seven scoreless innings in a victory at Miami and hasn’t allowed an earned run in 14 consecutive innings.
