Sager II also thanked his father’s TNT colleague Charles Barkley on Twitter for keeping his dad company in Houston.

Barkley immediately flew to Houston to spend time with Sager as he went through final prep work for his Wednesday bone marrow transplant, his third. Barkley told the associated press, that his doctors were pissed with him because he wasn’t medically cleared to travel after undergoing hip surgery last month.

Following the same AP article, Barkley’s doctor was absolutely furious upon learning his patient had defied his orders. Barkley informed the doctor that it was an emergency – though it was hard to know who was there for whom.

By now, the medical issues that veteran TNT NBA sideline reporter Craig Sager have become known to even those who have never seen one of his flashy suits or heard one of his wonderful reports of the game he loves. “When you go to try and cheer him up his attitude is so upbeat he cheers you up”.

Life is pretty lovely for Craig Sager, and for those of us who get to watch him doing his job on a nightly basis, his fight against this disease is nothing less than inspiring.

Sager found inspiration in a girl who lost her fight with cancer before her ninth birthday. Holsworth died of cancer in 2014. Holsworth had cheered on the Michigan State basketball team and had a close friendship with star Adreian Payne. He playfully rolled his eyes at his wife, Stacy, when she chided him for not smiling for a photo where he lifted his shirt to show where the fluid was entering his body in a tube above his left pectoral muscle. “That little girl was so wonderful”. Fought for all of those years, was always positive, always cheerful, always brought other people’s spirits up.

Sager, who has always been known for his wacky wardrobe and great relationships with National Basketball Association players and coaches, has been very public in his battle with cancer.

And here’s Gregg Popovich, who famously hates these interviews.

It would be a victory not just for him, but for all the people his fight has inspired. “That youre knocking down obstacles and clearing hurdles that are put in front of you and youre doing them with flying colors.”. “So this is his fourth birthday.”.

Sager tried to downplay the pageantry surrounding the event, saying it wasnt “a big deal.”. “Its giving you life.”.
