Boardman PD increasing patrols for Labor Day weekend

Troop J, headquartered in Hattiesburg, will have 19 extra federally-funded shifts during the three-day holiday period, which begins at 6 p.m. Friday and runs through Monday at midnight.

Jussel said law enforcement will be focusing on the areas of traffic safety that are the causes of most of the fatalities they have seen this year, which include: speed, distracted driving, aggressive driving, impaired driving, failure to buckle up and not using child safety seats.

Last year, MHP investigated 132 crashes during the Labor Day weekend.

“We’re hoping all motorists and families will enjoy the last holiday weekend of the summer and arrive at their destinations safely”, Poulos said.

“Every State Patrol region will be participating in special emphasis details during the upcoming holiday period to increase voluntary compliance with traffic laws, not to write more tickets”, Lt. Col. J.D. Lind said.

Troopers will be out in full force removing impaired drivers from Ohio’s roadways, and if you are driving impaired, you will be arrested.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 9,967 people killed in drunk-driving crashes nationwide in 2014, making up almost one-third of all traffic fatalities that year.

“When you are impaired from alcohol, some prescription medications or illegal drugs, you may not realize you can not safely drive a vehicle or boat”.

The law enforcement crackdown is meant to zero in on drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs and help reduce injury and fatal collisions.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Will Be Out In Force For Labor Day
