Mexican president blasts Trump’s policies as a ‘huge threat’ after meeting
President Pena Nieto pointedly took the occasion to state flatly that “at the beginning of the conversation with Donald Trump, I made clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall”. His speech also prompted resignations on Thursday from several members of his Hispanic Advisory Board, who said they felt misled by earlier overtures.

TRUMP: Like many Republicans, he vows to crack down on so-called sanctuary cities that shield residents from federal immigration authorities.
Past data has shown, however, that black immigrants are deported at five times the rate of other populations of undocumented people for an alleged criminal offense, according to Black Alliance for Just Immigration, so although the numbers may initially pose just as much of a threat to the Irish in the USA, racial bias within Trump’s deportation force may or may not affect Europeans who have overstayed their visa to the same extent.
It looks like Donald Trump’s meeting with Enrique Pena Nieto failed to win over Mexico’s president.
“Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation”, Trump said in Phoenix.
Significantly more young Hispanics, African-Americans and Asian-Americans say Clinton than Trump would better handle dealing with immigrants who are already in the country illegally. Mr Monty resigned from the council after Mr Trump’s speech.
While polls show a large majority of Hispanic voters oppose Trump, the withdrawal of support from among his small group of Latino backers underscores how hard it is for Trump to broaden his support with minorities and moderate voters.
The Franklin & Marshall College Poll in Pennsylvania measured Clinton’s lead among likely voters in the battleground state as 7 points, down from 11 points a month ago. Money from big donors is slowing to a trickle. And aides are confused about who’s calling the shots.
David Bossie, a conservative operative and longtime antagonist of the Clintons, has been hired as Trump’s deputy campaign manager, according to The Washington Post. In other words, Trump has been going with his gut. “But let me tell you, it has been documented that if this population left Wisconsin today, the state would lose over 14,500 jobs, $2.6 billion in economic activities and an additional $1.2 billion in gross state product”.
Trump’s rampant racism, bigotry, hate and misogyny may win votes from the far-right fringe that now controls the Republican party but it can not draw a majority of votes from the more diverse factions that make up American at the national level.
In an op-ed for El Pais, the Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker of The Revenant writes that Trump’s meeting with the country’s president was a “betrayal” and “lacks dignity”.
Trump “appeared presidential, was gracious to his Mexican hosts, and did not back down from his declared intention to build a wall and secure the U.S. border”, the former diplomat pointed out.
Such is the way of a bully.
“Pretty much any group that’s come into this country that has made our nation such a fantastic nation – they faced a few people who were saying bad things about them, who said ‘no Irish need apply”, added Kaine.
