Trump’s Mexico Visit Giant Step Toward Winning Presidential Election

Recent polls place the Republican presidential candidate’s chances of becoming the 45th U.S president as slim at best, with national and swing-state polls taken since the Democratic National Convention giving his main opponent Hillary Clinton double digit leads.

During a joint news conference after their meeting, Trump said he and Pena Nieto had not discussed his demand that Mexico pay for the border wall. But his government said Trump understood its concerns at the meeting, making Pena Nieto’s tense appearance on television the more surprising.

He said the easier path would have been to “cross my arms” and do nothing in response to Trump’s “affronts, insults and humiliations”, but he believed it necessary to open a “space for dialogue” to stress the importance of the U.S. -Mexico relationship, the Associated Press reported. “And Mexico will pay for the wall – 100 percent”. Trump is clearly just reacting to being called out by President Peña Nieto and the Hispanic advisers he betrayed.

Salvia said Trump had also displayed diplomatic tact in not demanding directly that Mexico pay for the costs of erecting the wall in his one hour meeting with the Mexican leader.

“It’s very important to us”, he said.

In his speech, Trump emphasized that his priority would be to quickly deport those among the undocumented population who have committed serious crimes.

He said he would form a commission to study which regions or countries he would suspend immigration from, saying Syria and Libya would be high on his list.

A few dozen demonstrators gathered beneath a monument to Mexican independence in the center of the capital to protest against the visit, some holding placards emblazoned with captions such as: “You are not Wall-come” and “Trump and Pena out”.

Opposition politicians in Mexico rounded on Pena Nieto for hosting Trump.

The politically incorrect statements that have become the hallmark of the Republican candidate’s campaign are back, and any illusions that Trump was “softening” his stance on immigration have been dispelled.

Maybe? While Enrique thinks it was important to tell Donald that Mexico will not accept Donald’s policies, the meeting didn’t really change Trump’s tune.
