Prince’s Paisley Park Will Be Opened to the Public as a Museum

Prince died on April 21, 2016 at his Paisley Park compound at the age of 57.

Tickets go on sale at 2 p.m. Friday for tours starting October 6. Graceland Holdings, which has run the tours at Elvis Presley’s Memphis home since 1982, will participate in the management of the tours. More than 30 years after Graceland opened, the estate and global tourist attraction reached its 20-millionth visitor mark.

Visitors will also get a chance to see thousands of artifacts from Prince’s archives, including his wardrobe, awards, instruments, artwork, concert memorabilia, vehicles, motorcycles and more. Tickets will go on sale starting Friday at $38.50 per person.

Per the proposal, tickets for 70-minute tours of Paisley Park will start at under $40. No walk-up sales will be allowed.

A business plan and application for development review for the museum has been submitted to the City of Chanhassen. A planning commission hearing is scheduled for September 20 and the City Council will consider it Oct 3. In a statement released yesterday, the late musician’s siblings announced that the complex, called Paisley Park, will be transformed into a museum.

The “Purple Rain” hit-maker left left no known will behind hence the judge overseeing the case has not ruled on who his heirs will be. Tyka Nelson, Prince’s sister, made a statement, in which explained the idea.

Media reports on Monday said that pills containing fentanyl were seized from Prince’s home after his death but they were mislabeled hydrocodone.

“The Estate is working with the family to form an advisory council who will provide valuable input on the entire experience”, said Craig Ordal, president of Bremer Trust, the Minnesota bank acting as special administrator of Prince’s estate.

The criminal investigation is continuing. Authorities are still investigating how Prince obtained the drugs.

Paisley Park, built in 1987 for $10 million, spans 65,000 square feet on nine acres of land, according to the Star Tribune.
