Buccaneers Wisely Lock Up Underrated Lavonte David
David’s contract includes $25.5 million guaranteed, easily the most ever for a 4-3 outside linebacker, almost doubling the $13 million Levy will receive.

A first-round pick (third overall) in 2010, McCoy has been named to three consecutive Pro Bowls while leading the Bucs in sacks in each of those three years – 23 total. Last year, David amassed 146 tackles and one sack with four forced fumbles.
One of the strongest spots on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ depth chart got stronger Tuesday when the team signed former Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Tony McDaniel.
“That’s just the expectation that he has for all of his players, especially a guy like me, who has some big shoes to fill”, David said at a news conference Monday.
A nine-year veteran, McDaniel, 30, played in all 38 games during his two-year tenure in Seattle.
“Yesterday, when we came close to doing the deal, Lavonte needed to sign off on it. So his agent, Ron Butler, wanted Lavonte to get on the phone”.
Yasinkas mentioned that in “the Tampa 2 defense, David is as important as any middle linebacker”. “I don’t have to worry about him at all because he’s a good young man. He’s going to do the right thing”.
He is the only player in the NFL with 10 or more sacks and six or more interceptions since the start of the 2012 season.
“We’re delivering these guys along plus they are also progressing fairly quick”, educate Lovie Smith said, pointing out both second-round breeze selects have moved on day-by-day.
However, this deal is a little bit more than what I would have given to David.
With David heading into the final year of his contract with the Buccaneers, finalizing an extension had to be near the top of their to-do list.
“We are very excited to announce that Lavonte will be a Buccaneer for the long term”, said Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht.

“We’ve talked about what Gerald brings to the table, but Lavonte can do it all”, Smith said. You see his ability on the football field.
