Winona Ryder discusses ‘hysterical’ Stranger Things role
The Netflix original Stranger Things has really taken off since it’s release and Winona Ryder visited Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about the success of the show and how she deals with it. “It was insane.” As for Millie, she knew Stranger Things was a hit as soon as her family watched it: “Probably when my brother started screaming at the TV and my sister cried at the last episode”. Though if Eleven returns to the show – which seems likely – she could always make Billy piss his trousers. Additionally, while some called the actresses’ performance of grief extreme (see this article on how the show subverts some of these gender roles), Ryder comments that her portrayal was a realistic response, stating, “Pretty much the first five out the eight episodes I’m pretty hysterical, as I think any parent would be in those circumstances”. “With this it was different and it’s been incredible”. “It’s been incredible. It’s been unbelievable, overwhelming, humbling”.

Netflix’s “Stranger Things” has been renewed for a second season and that’s great news to cast member, Noah Schnapp, whose character was at the center of its mystery. “And it was like, there was an ad for the show with my face”.
The series stars Winona Ryder and is beloved for its heavy 1980s vibes, which owe as much to classic Stephen King as they do Steven Spielberg.
Just as classic movies from The Goonies to Stand By Me were inspirations for the first season, the Duffers say sequels like Terminator 2 and Aliens are having a heavy influence on them as they develop the next batch of episodes.
Ryder explains that she’s more “old school” in her approach, meaning she had to actually cry as she’s allergic to the material to create fake tears. We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end.
“But I kind of really have to cry”.
For those who have not tuned in to Netflix’s show, the science-fiction thriller follows the disappearance of a young boy and the way his town starts to unravel in mysterious, supernatural ways after he goes missing.
