CDC, pregnant women avoid traveling to Miami due to Zika

The announcement comes nearly a week after the ministry confirmed the first case of a person being infected with the virus after travelling to a Zika affected country.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Zika is spread mainly by the bites of infected Aedes species mosquitos, which are aggressive daytime biters that may also bite at night. “You can also call the health department and we’ll talk to you about whether you should get tested for Zika”, said Butler.

“During Congress’ vacation, we have identified 43 cases of locally acquired Zika in four Florida counties”.

While Scott hasn’t had much luck working with the White House, Local Leaders here in Central Florida have outlined plans for prevention and preparedness.

The U.N. health agency says reports from national authorities indicate no confirmed laboratory cases of the Zika virus in anyone associated with the Rio Olympics.

Scott said Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood and parts of Miami Beach are the only areas where active transmission of the virus is possibly still going on, according to investigators. However, two new travel-related cases in Broward were announced today, along with 13 others in Orange, Polk, Broward, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco and Volusia counties.

Georgia Southern University Student Health Services received notification on Wednesday that an individual has tested positive for the Zika virus in Bulloch County.

Among the area residents was 32-year-old jogger Jen Cheek, who said health workers told her they would respond by email to her inquiries about the speed of the virus’ spread across Florida.

“When we will step up to phase two is when we see there is starting to be isolated cases through mosquitoes”, said Anderson.

“I think more information is better so we can have a better understanding”. There is no vaccine to prevent Zika, although research is underway. We need to use bug repellent.

“Our job here to protect all of the pregnant women in the state and all of their developing babies”, Florida Governor Rick Scott said in a telephone briefing. A fifth new case was diagnosed in a Pinellas County resident who hasn’t traveled internationally.
