Nnaji who spoke in an emotion-laden voice, restated that the people of Enugu state had been patient enough with their attackers and would no longer condone a situation where marauders of any guise would be allowed to invade their peaceful communities and unleash such unprovoked killings of the defenseless natives.
It was gathered that the attack occurred at about 2.00am on Thursday, when the suspected herdsmen attacked the compound, opened the ceiling of the building and gained access into the living apartments. He made the appeal when he visited the community to have on-the-spot assessment of the incident. They had initially left deep cuts on the man of the house and ripped the bowels of the women including the pregnant woman to the point that their intestines gushed out.
Four months ago, suspected herdsmen invaded and killed 11 people and injured many others in Nimbo community in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of the state. The state commissioner of police, Emmanuel Ojukwu urged members of the Ndiagu Attakwu community to remain calm just as he sympathized with families of the victims as well as the entire community over the incident.
“The government should have a record of the herdsmen in the various communities, ” the statement said.
The CLO expressed concern with the Federal Government’s inertia at halting the ugly development.
He said: “This is another heartbreak, not only for Enugu State, but the nation in general; and whatever evil forces are behind these reprehensible acts certainly do not wish the country well”.
