The Boise State University Broncos took advantage of the Ragin’ Cajuns’ Southern hospitality September 3, serving up a 45-10 beatdown at Louisiana Lafayette-Boise State’s first season-opening road win since 2000. Leighton Vander Esch had 1 sack with 5 tackles. Practices last month inside the Caven-Williams Indoor Complex, with the field watered down and the heaters turned up to the max, paid off Saturday. Boise State won, 45-10. Running back Jeremy McNichols will headline the running game. The transfer from Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College had 113 yards on seven receptions, scoring on a 42-yard touchdown pass from Rypien on the second possession. McNichols scored three touchdowns on 1- and 7-yard runs, plus a 48-yard pass from senior receiver Thomas Sperbeck 34 seconds into the second quarter. If you think Wilson supplanted Sperbeck as Rypien’s new top target, however.think again, Sperbeck still got his for 130 yards and a TD (he also tossed a touchdown to McNichols).

“It’s definitely a confidence booster. hopefully we can keep the train rolling”, Vallejo said.

Louisiana will face McNeese State in a 6 p.m. game on Saturday at Cajun Field.

Jennings, making his first start since 2014, and Jalen Nixon combined to engineer a 15-play, 75-yard drive that was aided by a pass interference penalty by Boise State on fourth-and-8 at the BSU 38.
