And Allardyce has made it clear to the 26-year-old that his place in the squad for Sunday’s World Cup qualifier is well-deserved.

“Russia will be my last opportunity to do anything with England”.

“And that, I really regret to say, means his retirement from worldwide football”.

Alan Shearer recently made the bold claim that Rooney ought to retire from worldwide football in the interest of consolidating his Manchester United career. It is up to Sam Allardyce again over the next two years, but if selected, I will have enjoyed it.

Former England captain Alan Shearer has encouraged Wayne Rooney to retire from worldwide football.

“Come Russia, I feel that that would be time for me to say goodbye to worldwide football. Russian Federation will be my last tournament”. I’ve enjoyed some highs, some lows but I am an immensely proud man.

“So, 15 years is a lot of time and I will be 34 by the next tournament and it is time to quit”.

England plays Slovakia in its opening World Cup qualifier on Sunday, for what will be Allardyce’s first game in charge.

Allardyce was appointed after England crashed out of Euro 2016 at the round-of-16 stage, having suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Iceland.

“I’m not that academy player who’s going to pick it up, pass it and be neat and tidy all the time”. It’s a huge honour for me. “I was pleased. It’s nice to captain your country and I’m looking forward to the new regime”.

Raheem Sterling, who was born in Jamaica, is the only overseas-born player in Allardyce’s current squad. Hence the new ideas and the new look at St. George’s Park, a national training center located in a sleepy town in central England and opened in 2012 at a cost of $160 million.

He explained: “It’s only a day we’ve been together but you can see [Sam’s] a relaxed guy”.

“Sam will want to find out why we keep tripping up because the [previous] managers and players haven’t found out why”.

“But then he showed me the piece of paper and after that I started welling up inside and all I wanted to do was call my missus”. You can’t just forget it (Euro 2016) but it’s a new era for us. “Obviously it’s the manager’s decision”.

“Maybe sometimes we have to dig one out here and there – let’s be resilient and tough”.
