Seattle’s Kyle Seager hit a hard liner up the middle, hitting Shoemaker flush on the right side of his head.

Almost 10 minutes later, Shoemaker walked off the field, assisted by the Angels training staff, with a towel pressed to the right side of his head. Seager’s liner had an exit velocity of 105 miles per hour, according to MLB Statcast.

After the game, the Angels announced that a CT scan revealed Shoemaker suffered the small fracture and hematoma. But nothing is better than knowing Matt Shoemaker is alert and responsive and is getting taken care of at the hospital right now.

After staying on the ground for an extended period, Shoemaker ultimately got up while holding a towel to his cut head. Teammates knelt around the mound and Seager anxiously watched from first base.

Shoemaker gave a slight wave to the crowd at Safeco Field, which stood and applauded, as he walked into the dugout.

Shoemaker eventually walked off the field with trainers on either side.

Deolis Guerra (3-0, 2.76 ERA) picked up the win for the Angels, pitching 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit. “I just kind of got into a battle, and fouled off some tough pitches and got some pitches to hit”.

“The fact of the matter is he was conscious and at least all his reactions were what they were supposed to be on the assessment”, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

“I don’t think about that”, Pujols said.

In 15 games against the Mariners this season, Trout is hitting.353 with seven home runs, two triples, two doubles and 17 RBIs, with 17 runs scored.

“Both of those pitches were up in the zone”, Iwakuma said through an interpreter.

Seattle stranded a runner on third base in the bottom of the seventh, then Los Angeles tacked on a run on Andrelton Simmons’ RBI single in the top of the eighth.

Kole Calhoun, Mike Trout and Albert Pujols hit consecutive home runs in the first inning off Walker. The Mariners activated RHP Drew Storen from the 15-day disabled list and recalled LHP David Rollins before Sunday’s game. Storen had been sidelined by shoulder inflammation, and the pair gives manager Scott Servais a few more options for the later innings with Seattle’s starters struggling to get deep into games of late.

Monday: The Angels will open a series at Oakland at 4:05 p.m.
