Man City thrash Chelsea 3-0 to go top of EPL

City sent out a strong title warning as they outplayed the champions at the Etihad Stadium to continue their superb start to the Barclays Premier League season.

Chelsea ensured a troubled build-up to the game after a week of headlines dominated by manager Jose Mourinho’s row with two of his medical staff.

And in the 44th minute, Eliaquim Mangala should have made it 2-0 with a clear header from close range which he put wide.

“It was a very hard game and disappointing result for us, but this is done now and we can’t go back“, said Ivanovic. Anyone watching that match – outside of Mourinho, obviously – would confidently state that Manchester City looked like the far better side, as Chelsea struggled to create goal-scoring opportunities throughout and, truthfully, got lucky with a 3-0 loss. The game ended 1-0 to city after referee added 5 minutes to the clock for injury time. While the Special One feels that that the 3-0 scoreline was “completely fake”, Pellegrini argued that the victory in front of their home crowd was “the least we deserved”.

Chelsea travel to West Brom on Sunday hoping to get back to winning ways and despite their five point gap between themselves and the leaders, Begovic believes they still have plenty of time to make up the difference. Pellegrini, who believes Aguero can play even better in the ongoing season, praised the Argentine worldwide for his incredible showing, saying that the 27-year-old forward is in the best moment of his career.

The 31-year-old said: “We know that this is another year”.

As for his own substitutions, Mourinho made the unusual decision at half-time to take off influential captain John Terry and bring on Kurt Zouma.

“An errant offside flag denied us a deserved leveller.”

“I’m really happy with the two clean sheets”.

“I think it could be the start of the end for John Terry”, Quinn told Sky Sports. “He was not playing any risky balls up to Diego Costa and Chelsea’s other forwards, and was not particularly effective when he got up the pitch to join them”.

Goals from Sergio Aguero, Kompany and Fernandinho gave the hosts a resounding win, but it was their dominance throughout which impressed Lineker and Shearer most. “I want Sergio [Agüero] to catch up quickly and go on to be top-scorer in the Premier League again“.
