As San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick deepens his resolve and continues to protest police brutality and institutionalized racism, his jersey’s sales have soared to become the team’s top-seller, eclipsing sales of such 49ers legends as Jerry Rice, Joe Montana and Steve Young.

Once we get to the regular season, look for more and more players to follow Kaepernick’s lead – even if he’s only there in spirit. Now it’s their best seller.
Even while Kaepernick’s health and the financial repercussions will likely be on the mind of the team’s front office, Kelly said Kaepernick will be in uniform and a member of the active 46-man roster for the opener. Over the past two years, the killings of a series of African-Americans in cities across the country has triggered protests and given rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.
The downside to all of this is the National Football League – an astoundingly dislikable organization – gets to profit.
Kaepernick completed 11 of 18 passes in San Francisco’s 31-21 victory over the San Diego Chargers on Thursday to end the preseason.
Kaepernick’s stance has proved controversial. Now, critics are ripping him apart over his recent decisions to sit during the pre-game performance of the national anthem.

Kaepernick missed most of the offseason recovering from injuries and developed an issue with this throwing shoulder that sidelined him for part of the preseason, giving Gabbert more of an edge.
Maybe 49ers management can not tolerate this and maybe General Manager Trent Baalke – never a big fan of Kaepernick’s – will decide he has to cut the QB right here and now.
“Our plan was to always keep three quarterbacks”, 49ers coach Chip Kelly said Saturday.
“What makes an act truly patriotic and not just lip-service is when it involves personal risk or sacrifice”, basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote this week in The Washington Post. In that statement, the team expressed support for the national anthem while affirming Kaepernick’s right to not stand when the anthem was being sung.

That’s what Kaepernick has been saying all along. But at the same time, I think this type of behavior from certain individuals against black Americans needs to stop.

Let’s hope Kaepernick gets another chance to take a knee.
