Happy 100th Birthday National Park Service!
It was more than your typical birthday celebration Thursday as the National Park Service celebrated its centennial at the Great Overland Station.

“I’ve been here yesterday doing a speech and helping design this national park, myself with my team”.
Petersburg’s National Battlefield Park will host a National Park-themed movie and trivia night to commemorate the 100th birthday. If we lose our national parks, we lose our history.
“You have a very rare site here with the Pappan’s Ferry Landing, and it’s an opportunity for us to tell a different story here than is really told anywhere else”, said National Park Service Ranger Carol Clark. Bay City News makes note of 10 national park locations nearby, and highlights places like the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historic Park, and the Eugene O’Neill National Historic Site. National parks contributed almost $650 million to the MA economy and supported 7,000 jobs.
The Billings Gazette reports two-time Grammy victor John Prine sang “Paradise” in honor of his father, who used to take him to state and national parks.
More than 1,000 kids and adults used brown, green and white umbrellas to create a living version of the park service emblem on the National Mall, which the agency photographed from a helicopter above.
So if you can’t quite get away from your desk to celebrate the National Park Service this weekend, you can at least bring a bit of the parks to you.
“There’s a wide variety of names that Congress has assigned to them, but they are all units of our national park system”.
