Kvyat will complete the F1 season, says Marko

Rumours surfaced after the Italian Grand Prix on Spanish television that Gasly confirmed he will be replacing Kvyat at Toro Rosso for the next F1 race at Singapore.

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has dismissed claims GP2 championship leader Pierre Gasly will replace Daniil Kvyat at Toro Rosso from the next round of the Formula 1 championship in Singapore.

Asked about the claim, Marko asked Sky Sports F1 “Who said that?”

Told that Gasly had broken the news to Movistar, he added: “It’s news to me but believe me I’ll be on the phone with him immediately”.

When asked if there was a chance that Gasly could get a Friday run at some point, Marko responded: “We are deciding who is sitting in the auto and he also won’t be in the vehicle on a Friday”. It’s absolute rubbish. Kvyat will have his chance to recover and we won’t make any decisions before mid-October who will have the seat next year in Toro Rosso. “He will be in a simulator on the Friday, but not in the auto”.

A variation of the rumour is that Russian Kvyat could subsequently be loaned to Renault, in exchange for a better deal for Toro Rosso’s 2017 engines.

Kvyat struggled again at Monza, with the Russian retiring after sustaining damage to the floor in an incident on lap one through the first chicane.

“At the moment he has had so much bad luck on the technical side, on the sporting side, so it wouldn’t be fair to judge it”. I don’t really care about these rumours, whatever.

“There are many options and so on, blah blah blah, contracts and stuff”.

“Let’s just wait and see”. “We are patient and hopefully all the bad luck also came in qualifying when Grosjean was in his way”.

“We have had two races where we knew we would not have a chance, and now we have a few races where we have a chance”. “I’m just doing my job, whatever they decide they decide”.
