Giants awarded defensive tackle Robert Thomas on waivers
The Giants are among the teams shuffling their roster after waiver claims on Sunday. Defensive lineman Montori Hughes, who played seven games for the Giants last season, has been released, according to agent Audie Attar.

To make room for Thomas on the 53-man roster, the Giants announced the release of defensive tackle Montori Hughes, who has played in seven games over his four-year National Football League career. He was originally signed by the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas before being signed to the Panthers’ practice squad.
The Giants also announced 10 additions to their practice squad.
Thomas, 25, was claimed off of waivers by the Panthers from the Miami Dolphins earlier in the year, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN. Thomas then was on practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots before joining the Dolphins on December 1.
Miami released Thomas on April 28, and he joined the Panthers the following day.
Davis (10 games, 2 receptions), Maponga (2) and Gettis (1) appeared in regular-season games for the Giants in 2015.
Hughes, a massive 350-pound run-stopper with three years of National Football League experience, had a solid summer, but the Giants opted to replace him with Thomas, who is 6-foot-3 and 325 pounds. Davis, a 2015 sixth-round selection, is the only former Giants draft choice on the practice squad.

In his three years at Arkansas, Thomas collected 72 career tackles and seven sacks from his sophomore campaign through his senior year.
