DODGERS 7, PADRES 4: Jose De Leon struck out nine while winning his major league debut, pinch-hitter Yasmani Grandal drove in three runs, including a go-ahead single in the fifth inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied to beat the San Diego Padres 7-4 on Sunday.

CINCINNATI (AP) – Randal Grichuk and Kolten Wong homered, Carlos Martinez carried a shutout into the seventh inning and the St. Louis Cardinals snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. Cincinnati used four walks by Jerome Williams to score five times in the eighth, capped by Tucker Barnhart’s bases-loaded double.

Martinez (13-7) allowed three hits and all of his season-high five walks over six scoreless innings before the Reds reached him for three hits and two runs to knock him out of the game three batters into the seventh. It was the second outfield assist Moss has had in his two seasons with the Cardinals and the first where he threw directly to a base to catch a runner.

The Reds plan to honor former right fielder Jay Bruce for his contributions to the franchise on the field and to the community off the field before today’s 1:10 p.m. opener of a three-game series against NY at Great American Ball Park. The Cardinals are 13-2 when he’s pitched against Cincinnati.

“He’s going to be careful with certain guys”, Matheny said. “Later in the game, I thought he got a little exhausted but. he’d (give up) that walk and come right back and make good pitches”.

TIGERS 6, ROYALS 5: Justin Upton hit a two-run homer with two out in the eighth inning, sending the Detroit Tigers to a 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

Wright was 0-2 with a 7.62 earned-run average in four games, including two starts, with the Reds this season.

Grichuk’s homer, which scored Stephen Piscotty, ended a streak of 16 hitless at-bats for the Cardinals with runners in scoring position.

“He’s been mentioned so frequently in our game reports”, Price said. The St. Louis Cardinals did a lot of things wrong, and they added up to a third straight loss.

“On a day, too, when he was struggling to put together the at-bat he wanted to”, said Matheny, of Moss. “Moss makes a nice play”.

“Offensively, we’re down by three runs and you think you’re going to be conservative, but you still have to score runs”, he said. “We had to take a chance with two outs”. They also purchased the contract of C Carson Kelly from Triple-A Memphis, designated for assignment INF Dean Anna and transferred RHP Seth Maness to the 60-day DL.

Reds CF Billy Hamilton caught up with Rosario’s fly to the warning track, smacked into the wall after making the catch, and threw back to the infield to double up a surprised Greg Garcia at first base to end the fourth inning.
