Mark Sanchez blew his (latest) moment of truth

Kubiak didn’t say whether Mark Sanchez or rookie Paxton Lynch would follow Siemian into the lineup against the Rams on Saturday, but he added he was still considering how long the starters would play in the game. There’d be one more preseason game before Week 1 kickoff, and it’d be hard for Sanchez to have the time to outplay Siemian.

Most NFL teams have a firm idea of who will start at the game’s most important position by Week 3 of the preseason.

The smile and occasional jokes with teammates belied the task ahead. I want that one back … that one bad play.

Eyebrows raised as the impossible of five months ago suddenly appeared possible.

Trevor Siemian led a nifty game-opening touchdown drive that C.J. Anderson finished with a 19-yard run, but he also was picked off by Eric Reid, who returned the interception 42 yards for the touchdown.

The coach put his arm around Siemian’s waist and talked in his ear for several minutes.

Meanwhile, Siemian was sharp, completing 10 of his first 11 passes and finishing 10 of 14 for 75 yards.

“There’s a lot to think about”, Siemian said. But we don’t want to throw him back out there and then have a setback.

The Broncos, coming off their Super Bowl-winning season, will have a new face at starting quarterback no matter who gets the job. Sanchez has committed three turnovers in limited action across two preseason appearances.

“I’m really impressed with our young quarterback, the way he’s practiced the last two days”, Kubiak said. “There’s no excuse for that, poor, poor quarterback play”.

Ray-Ray Armstrong – Rarely does a former Raiders starter turn into one with the 49ers.

Now, however, Gabbert has emerged as the favorite to start for the 49ers, something that no one would have predicted this time past year.

Siemian also led the offense on a 10-play, 86-yard touchdown drive to open the game. And then he threw a pick.

After the Broncos 31-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, Sanchez admitted that he feels like he lose the opportunity.

“I know that when I first got out here, [the game] was spinning and it was moving so fast for me, but it’s getting to the point where I can hear the play call and slow it down a little bit and get in the huddle and move past some things quicker. I know I’m better than I showed tonight”, Sanchez said. He is the Broncos’ quickest player off the edge, and has frequently whipped past tackles and tight ends to pressure Siemian and Sanchez. He has been sacked three times and fumbled twice. “He and Mark will consistently play the same amount, which I’d like to tell you is a quarter and a half, but it’ll probably be more of a play count”. We look at some positives and negatives from the performances. He played the entire first half and broke up two passes.

“We don’t have to, but I’m going to make a decision next week and we’re going to go to work”.
