Samsung’s new Galaxy smartphones go on sale in Singapore from August 15

Samsung continued to lead the Indian smartphone market in the quarter ended June with 24.5% share on the back of flagship S6 and S6 Edge launches, but lost a little market share to No. 2 Micromax which increased its share to 16.7%, according to Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Research. Unfortunately, the listing on Samsung’s official page has been taken down during the writing of this article.

Samsung has introduced sleeker phones and they are still banking on bigger screens to boost their sales. The company has not yet disclosed prices for the new devices, but sources said the Note5 will be launched in India in September this year, while the S6 Edge+ will hit stores in the third week of August.

The South Korean electronics giant unveiled the two new smartphones yesterday, along with the launch dates for its mobile payment service in South Korea and the United States. A new feature allows users to make notes directly on the phone screen, without having to power on or unlock the phone.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 5 on Thursday, and fans of Samsung’s Galaxy Note line of smartphones aren’t very happy with it.

“The Samsung Note 5 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus are a welcome addition to our portfolio of phone offerings that are specially designed so you can live the Smart Life to the fullest”, said Smart Postpaid business head Kathy Carag. Some other changes include an improved S Pen and a stronger yet also lighter metal (more refined) than what was used in the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge from earlier this year. You can add far more kinds of cards to the Samsung Pay app than you can with Apple Pay or other rivals. Instead, Samsung will build an ecosystem through which merchants can provide offers and loyalty programs to their customers.

Both the Note 5 and the S6 Edge+ also sport 16-megapixel primary cameras with an optical image stabilizer alongside 5-megapixel front-facing snappers. There are no immediate plans for Samsung Pay in Canada. Still, today’s release follows five consecutive financial quarters of dropping profits.
