Delhi Police arrests sacked AAP minister Sandeep Kumar in rape case
Senior party leader Ashutosh wrote an impassioned column on the NDTV website defending Kumar, claiming the party’s eagerness to let him go was a reflection of the country’s hypocritical moral standards. The Rohini District Court had yesterday sent Kumar to one-day police custody. AAP leader Ashutosh tried to compare Sandeep Kumar with Gandhiji, Pandit Nehru and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

BJP activists burnt effigies of AAP leader Ashutosh in various parts of the state today for “comparing” his party’s tainted minister Sandeep Kumar, who has been booked for rape, with “son of Gujarat” Mahatma Gandhi.
Mr Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party routed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party in last year’s elections in the capital, but it has been hit by a series of controversies involving its legislators.
Sandeep Kumar, Women’s and Children’s Minister of Delhi, was sacked on Wednesday, August 31st 2016 by the city’s chief minister after a clip surfaced in which he was kissing a woman who is not his wife.
Reacting to the development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “If woman’s allegations are correct, this is v serious”.
Recalling the day the alleged incident took place, the woman claimed she was asked to wait at the minister’s office and then offered a cold drink which was spiked.
“The complainant said that he (Kumar) made a video and circulated it”. But I would like to know what the party has done against him.
Sandeep Kumar, who is married and has one child says this a set-up and the video has no authenticity.
The 36-year-old MLA from northwest Delhi’s Sultanpur Majra said he was targeted for being a Dalit.
Kejriwal said although the turn of events and the fact that “such people” were in the party “saddened” him, he takes “pride” from the fact that AAP did not attempt to “cover up” the transgressions.

“The video clearly establishes that both individuals (minister and the woman) knew each other and consented to sex in a private space away from the public glare”.
