The Chhattisgarh Government has chose to submit all facts regarding the construction of barrages in the upper catchment area of Mahanadi River in a tripartite meeting going to be held in Delhi this month.

The meeting is expected to be held in New Delhi in the later part of the month.

“Hirakud Dam was constructed in 1957 and it is irrelevant to raise the issue of Hirakud reservoir and Mahanadi water sharing by Odisha after 59 years”, said Singh indicating that the BJP government here was not in a mood to give any more space to Odisha on the issue.

Earlier on August 25, Bharti had said that she will hold the meeting on a mutually convenient date between September 10 and 20. The proposal for a joint control board has made no progress as Odisha government is yet to take a call on it. Chhattisgarh water resources minister Brijmohan Agrawal said, “The Chhattisgarh government has supplied all information to Odisha as committed in the July 29 meeting”. The report has no details about the Chhattisgarh government’s plan to supply Mahanadi water to different industries.
