Watt passes physical, will return to practice Monday

And, on Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Watt is indeed expected to play in that game. Watt could be in uniform when the Houston Texans open the season September 11 versus the Chicago Bears.

Head coach Bill O’Brien said Friday that it “looks decent” that Watt could return for Week 1. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year underwent surgery July 20 to fix a herniated disc.

“I don’t think we’re at the point right now, today where we’re going to say we’re going to activate him right now”, O’Brien said.

The defensive end also sat out the entire preseason in 2012 because of an elbow injury and was able to return for the season opener. He has yet to miss a start in his National Football League career, and it looks as if Watt looks to continue that trend. A year ago prior to Week 14, Watt broke his hand midweek during practice but still took the field that week donning a club on his hand.

The 27-year-old Watt dealt with a number of injuries in 2015, including a herniated disk, a broken hand, a groin tear, and three adductor and two abdominal muscles tears.

The Texans did the same thing with left tackle Duane Brown who tore his quad in the final regular season game in January and then had surgery.
