Northern Syria cleared of IS, Kurdish militia: Erdogan
The current Turkish operation in Syria has been slammed by Damascus as a blatant violation of sovereignty. Following the intrusion, the Russian Foreign Ministry also said it was deeply worried about the latest development.

The military said it had carried out artillery strikes on Zavgar and Kiliyeh.
In addition, Turkey’s military adventure in northern Syria does not help to solve the years-long conflict that has claimed more than 280,000, displaced millions and sparked a major refugee crisis in Europe.
Turkish officials have said Turkish-backed militia forces in recent days have struck westwards, in militants areas.
Turkey, on its part, denied the civilian toll, saying its operation had killed 25 “terrorists”.
He also said the fight against terrorism and security would be the main topics during the G20 summit, adding that he would express to its allies Turkey’s expectations regarding terror groups such as FETO, DHKP-C, PKK, PYD, YPG, and Daesh.
I think right now what they are trying to do is clip the wings of the Kurds which of course puts the Americans in a very hard position because Washington has supported the Kurdish forces very strongly and now we are acquiescing to be impounded by yet our other ally, our North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally, Turkey. Turkey’s military campaign in Syria saw a renewed push following a suicide attack on Gaziantep that killed 54 people.
Jarabulus residents who fled the town when it was taken over by Islamic State in 2013, have meanwhile begun to return, television images showed.
The Turks have said that their target is Daesh but everybody knows the real target is the Kurds specifically that they do not extend their area of control west of the Euphrates River.
In an unprecedented operation, Turkey has been deploying tanks and troops in Syria to clear the border area of Islamic State (IS) jihadists and halt the westward advance of a US-backed Kurdish militia, which Ankara sees as a terrorist group.
Two US defense officials told AFP that SDF forces had “all” withdrawn east of the Euphrates, but they said some Kurdish people remained to the west.
Turkey sees the YPG as an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) that has waged a bloody war against the Turkish state since 1984.
Erdogan’s remarks appeared to be in reference to comments made by a US defense official to AFP Monday that Kurdish forces had “all” moved east of the Euphrates. Ibrahim Kalin, a spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said Turkey would continue to attack the YPG.
“These conflicting reports could be a further indication of mounting tension between Turkey and the U.S. about how to deal with northern Syria”, said Al Jazeera’s Hashem Ahelbarra, reporting from Gaziantep on the Turkish side of the Syria-Turkey border.
Turkish warplanes renewed air strikes on ISIS sites in northern Syria on Friday, CNN Turk reported, the latest attacks since Turkish-backed forces began the incursion on August 24.

“Our forces have detained several mercenaries from the Turkey-backed groups in the vicinity of Jarablus on Thursday”, a spokesman for the YPG told ARA News, adding: “The operation comes in response to the detention of four of our fighters who have been tortured and publicly humiliated by those mercenary groups”. Yildirim also called on the United States to reassess its support for the YPG, recalling once again that the PYD and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were one and the same.
