Lauren Landavazo and Makayla Smith were shot in an alley off Kingston Drive in Wichita Falls Friday afternoon walking home from school.

Police have not given a motive for the shooting.
Kody Lott, 20, is charged with the murder of Lauren Landavazo and the aggravated assault of Makayla Smith. They were rushed to the hospital where Landavazo died from her injuries and Smith is now in critical condition. When police pulled over the vehicle, the driver exited and ran.
As the community morns the death of one of those young girls, a woman said she is also saddened and surprised this happened in her neighborhood.

More gunfire was reported at 5 p.m. on nearby Tower Drive, but no injuries were reported.
Two people were reportedly detained at that scene and no injuries were reported.
The 13-year-old girls were walking home from McNiel Middle School when a spray of bullets erupted, striking Lauren and Makalya. I am saddened to report that one of those girls passed away and the other is in guarded condition.

“As a district, we are saddened by this senseless act of violence”, Superintendent Michael Kuhrt said, “and our thoughts and prayers are with all of those involved”.
