Usman said the operation held on August 19, 2016 as the terrorists were performing Friday rituals at Taye village, Gombale general area, within Sambisa forest, Borno state.
Nigeria’s military claimed yesterday to have seriously injured Boko Haram’s elusive leader Abubakar Shekau and killed other commanders in an air strike on the Islamist group’s forest stronghold. While their leader, so called “Abubakar Shekau”, is believed to be fatally wounded on his shoulders.
Shekau took over the militant group in 2009, when it began an insurgency that has killed tens of thousands of people in a bid to impose its version of Islamic law on Africa’s most populous nation.
The senior State Department official said there was now a recognition by the Nigerian military of the need to pay attention to human rights. Then, in September 2014, it again said “Sehkau” had been killed – though it later clarified that the man killed in 2014 was a Shekau impostor who went by the names Isa Damsaka, Bashir Konduga and Bashir Mohammed.
English edition of Asharq Al-Awsat – the world’s premier pan-Arab daily.
But only a week later, Shekau surfaced in a video posted on social media, ridiculing suggestions of his death and looking more composed and energetic than in previous appearances. For me, defeat in this sense is in terms of the impunity and the arrogance and the confidence with which they moved freely, hoisting flags and claiming more territories and our people were on the run.
Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Borno state, Hon Kaka Shehu Lawan accused Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff of being responsible for the growth of the dreaded Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, saying he should be arrested and prosecuted.
