Call of Duty’s 2016 world champion is EnvyUs
BRITS Splyce made history today by reaching the final of the Call of Duty World League Championships – before being beaten in the final by American hotshots Team EnVyUs.

Splyce reaching the final was the first time in the five years of COD Champs that a Euro team has made it into the Grand Finals. The victory nets EnvyUs a trophy and $800,000, the lion’s share of the total $2 million prize that was up for grabs over Labor Day weekend. If you’re a part-time follower of the Call of Duty console scene, like myself, you’d recognize both FaZe and OptiC, remembering they are the poster-boys for Call of Duty North America. After sweeping Team eLevate in the losers bracket finals, they made their way to the grand finals against Team EnVyUs.
Splyce, on the other hand, had a tough road ahead as they found themselves in the lower bracket where they had to fight their way out against some of the top teams.
Splyce took a surprise 1-0 lead by winning the first game 250 to 196 in Hardpoint. Before 2016 the United States had had a stranglehold on the game, with no team from outside the USA even reaching the final four.
For the a year ago, with Call of Duty: Black Ops III, some of the best players in the world have been grinding and doing their best for this very moment: the Call of Duty World League Championship at COD XP 2016.

However, no one will leave empty handed. This shows promise for the global effort of growing eSport communities, taking into consideration that the United Kingdom does not have an especially large eSports community.
