G20 Talk Between Obama and Putin “Constructive but not Conclusive”

“I don’t have to sell it to Asian leaders here who were part of the negotiations because they see this as the right thing to do for their own countries”, Obama told reporters at the close of the G20 summit in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou.

The pair met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in China after talks between their foreign ministers also ended without success.

In an opening speech on Sunday, Xi delivered a stern warning over sluggish global growth, financial market turbulence and receding global trade and investment.

Germany, South Korea and other governments say they also want to use the meeting to discuss climate, energy and possible reforms to the global tax system to reduce tax evasion.

“We hope the Hangzhou summit will come up with a prescription for the world economy and lead it back to the road of strong, balanced, comprehensive and sustainable growth”, he said.

Speaking at the news conference with Obama, May said her government was going ahead with its departure and was looking to create new trading opportunities.

Xi did not shy away from highlighting the real challenges lying ahead for the G20, the researcher noted, adding that China, as the second largest economy in the world, “would focus on innovation in cooperation mechanisms”. “It may help to reassure countries about tangible steps China is taking”, he said.

“We are working for this region to be declared no-fly zone”, Erdogan said at the G20 meeting in China, referring to the land extending from Jarabulus to Azaz in northern Syria seized from IS jihadists.

Xi told South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye that Beijing opposed the USA deployment of the THAAD anti-missile system in her country.

State Department officials have declined to elaborate on what the sticking points are preventing a deal, though the USA official said the remaining differences revolved around how the plan would be implemented.

“China does not leave things half-said”. “I think he cares about some real, legitimate issues that need to be talked about and, if nothing else, what he’s doing has generated more conversation around some topics that need to be talked about”. They agreed to hold an upper-level council session by the end of 2016, with a strategic planning group due to meet this fall. “With China and the USA, 26 countries have ratified, accounting for 39.06 per cent of global emissions”, it said.

“This is not a decision against the United States of America”, Juncker said.

“We need to protect the interests of the members of the European Union that want to stay together, not the one which wants to leave”, Tusk said.
