Colin Kaepernick — Announces $1 Million Donation

We have a lot of people that are oppressed, we have a lot of people that aren’t treated equally, aren’t given equal opportunities. It is hard to see in the photo above, but to the left of Kaepernick (his right), safety Eric Reid joined him in silent protest.

Kaepernick has been a controversial NFL figure since last week when he explained his reasons for remaining seated during the singing of the national anthem before games.

“I wasn’t trying to say anything, just standing behind Kaepernick”, Lane said after the game, via Gregg Bell of the News Tribune. I’m very much in support of them and how we handle it.

Reid said after the game he wanted to let Kaepernick “know that he’s not the only person who feels the way he feels”. “Taking a knee is worth doing, because it’s people’s lives and issues that are far bigger than the game”.

It was the latest in the flurry of heated responses – both negative and positive – that Kaepernick has gotten since his silent protest became the talk of the National Football League and much of the nation last week. Kaepernick impressively directed a 15-play touchdown drive on the opening offensive series of the game. He finished 11-18 for 103 yards while rushing for 38 yards on 4 carries. He also rushed for 38 yards on four carries. The 49ers must trim their roster from 75 to 53 this weekend.

One executive told Bleacher Report he hasn’t seen this kind of disdain for a player since Rae Carruth, the former Carolina Panthers wide receiver who hired a hitman to kill his pregnant girlfriend in November 1999. “I think what I did was taken out of context and spun a different way”.

Colin Kaepernick went from sitting alone unnoticed during The Star-Spangled Banner to being noticed, to taking a knee with teammate Eric Reid during the national anthem with all eyes on him, to pledging $1 million to communities in need.

Colin Kaepernick didn’t change his stance during the San Francisco 49ers’ Thursday night game against the San Diego Chargers, even though it was the Chargers’ 28th annual Salute to the Military event.
