Democratic VP candidate defends Clinton on classified emails

Vice President Joe Biden is praising Tim Kaine, his possible successor, as a man who is highly qualified for the job and capable of handling any challenge that Hillary Clinton may throw his way.

“So contrast the Hillary situation, where the Federal Bureau of Investigation said there’s no need for legal proceedings, with an attack that is being encouraged by Donald Trump on the DNC by Russian Federation similar to what led to the resignation of a president 30 years ago”, Kaine said.

“A president was impeached and had to resign over an attack on the DNC during a presidential election in 1972”, Kaine added, referring to the Watergate scandal.

Speaking on ABC News’ “This Week With George Stephanopoulos”, Kaine compared this year’s cyber attack on the Democratic National Committee to the burglary at party offices at Washington’s Watergate complex in 1972. “He promised that Putin would not and had to be reminded that Putin went in and took over Crimea two years ago”, Kaine said, taking a swipe at Trump.

“My advice to her: The best way to remedy it is, talk about what you care about and talk about it with some passion”.

Raddatz pressed Kaine on the matter, however, citing Clinton’s poor poll numbers relating to voter trust, and asking if she needs to better explain herself in the face of them.

Clinton, who is facing Trump for the White House in the November 8 election, has been dogged for more than a year by the fallout from her decision to use an unauthorized private email account run from the basement of her Chappaqua, New York, home.

Yet Pence also opened the door for more criticism of Trump by vowing to release his own income tax returns within the next week.

Kaine predicted Monday that Trump would be making the same claim eight years from now at the end of Clinton’s second term as he hawks bottled water on the street.

To try to say that’s the U.S.’s fault is ridiculous. “But to say that Putin’s imperial ambitions are the fault of anybody in the United States is ridiculous”, Kaine alleged.

At a critical moment, though, her first public remarks on Trump’s trip to Mexico, her voice gave way again.

He also insisted that she has “had hundreds of interviews in the previous year”. “She talks to the press a lot, and I’ve been with her when she’s talked to the press”. She gave a speech to the National Association of Black Journalists within the last month, where there were also journalists, Hispanic journalists, there.

RADDATZ (interrupting): But Senator Kaine, she hasn’t answered questions about this. “And members of mainstream media outlets, television networks, asked her questions during that press conference”.

Trump said July 27 that he hoped Russian intelligence services could find thousands of missing e-mails from Clinton’s time as secretary of state.
