Astros lefty Keuchel sent back to Houston for shoulder exam

Keuchel has stopped throwing altogether and has left the Astros’ road trip and returned to Houston to have his shoulder examined further.

Keuchel was slated to face off with 2014 American League Cy Young victor Corey Kluber on Tuesday against the Cleveland Indians, but will be scratched and Houston is yet to announce a replacement.

Keuchel, the reigning American League Cy Young victor, has been dealing with pain since after his most recent start on August 27 and does not have a timetable for return.

“It’s a big blow, no doubt”, Hinch said.

“He’s really good at pitching through a lot of the irregularities that happen throughout the season, and this is just something he couldn’t do”. “He played catch in Texas the last day and didn’t feel great, so he flew back to see our doctors, had some tests”. Peacock has made five appearances with the Astros this season and posted a 4.23 ERA and 119/40 K/BB ratio over 117 innings this season in Triple-A.

Keuchel’s injury means he won’t face Cleveland right-hander Corey Kluber, who won the AL Cy Young victor in 2014, on Tuesday.
