“You speak to me, you speak to me in English”.
Martinez says Black was retaliating after he accidentally dropped a bottle of water.
“I don’t understand Spanish”.
A bus driver in southern Idaho has been fired after a video of her pouring water on a student and telling him to speak English surfaced on social media.
Martinez tried to talk to her but she went on about speaking English. She was like ‘I’m going to pour it on you ’cause you poured it on other people.’ And I was like ‘that was an accident when I poured it on her.
She can also be heard saying, “I don’t want to touch you, because I don’t want to get cooties”. She also blamed freshman Brayan Alverez, who later recorded the video, for motivating Martinez. “And?” and that’s when she started to pour the water and she said that it was an accident. The bus company had been contacted but their response was that they could find no evidence of the reported incident on the bus video. The video shows North Side Bus Services’ former employee Mary Black.
Juan Espino, a family friend of Alvarez who uploaded the footage online, said this is not the first time Black has gone off at students about speaking Spanish. Espino says the company called back a few days later and said there was no evidence.
“When I talked to one of the other kids, he told me that when that took place the driver would turn, when something like that happened, the driver would turn the cameras off.”
“It’s not something that we wish for, and not something that I would want to, but there will be consequences in everything that you do in life will be consequences”, Espino added.
