Serena Williams hammers a forehand in her win over Johanna Larsson at the US Open in NY.

Serena Williams, who won through into the US Open last 16 on Sunday, earned her 307th grand slam victory – the most by a woman in the Open era. In the end, Murray prevailed and now finds himself three wins away from becoming the fourth player to reach all four major finals in the same year. I just have to serve well. Kyrgios was trailing 4-6 6-4 6-1 in the match before pulling out. Her older sister, Venus, is looking to recapture her wonder years and moved into the fourth round in convincing fashion, defeating Laura Siegemund of Germany, 6-1, 6-2.

A third British man, Dan Evans, came within a point of also making the fourth round but failed to complete what would have been a significant upset, fading in a 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-6 (8), 6-2 loss to No. 3 Stan Wawrinka. She faced only one break point – her first of the tournament – and saved it.

No. 10 Karolina Pliskova, No. 5 Simona Halep vs.

Williams, who will be 35 next month, is the oldest player ever to hold the No. 1 ranking. And she doesn’t even talk about it.

In the third round, the American breezed past Sweden’s Johanna Larsson dropping only three games in the process with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 scoreline.

Williams revealed she first heard about Navratilova’s 307 grand slam singles wins at Wimbledon and says she takes great satisfaction in surpassing it.

But Babos, unable to convert two game points in the 10th, finally surrendered with a whimper with a double fault on match point. She had a half-dozen aces, bringing her total this week to 31. If she’s going to win this Grand Slam, she’s has to continue playing really well and she has to hit those spots.

Radwanska will be in her Round of 16 match against Ana Konjuh on Monday.

Del Potro’s resurgence continued with a 7-6 (3), 6-2, 6-3 victory over No. 11 David Ferrer.

Serena Williams came to NY with concerns about her sore right shoulder and has answered those questions, emphatically.

The six-time US Open champion hasn’t lost a set at this year’s tournament.

After that, Williams played only one event before the U.S. Open, losing in the third round of the Olympics.

“It’s always good to win by saving match point”.

In the one hour it took to subdue Larsson, Williams appeared untroubled by the shoulder injury that has slowed her since her Wimbledon triumph. Shvedova is yet to beat Williams in four attempts.

Williams arrived at Flushing Meadows past year on the cusp of claiming a calendar slam and the weight of expectation was crushing, the pressure mounting with each match until a shock loss to Roberta Vinci in the semi-finals.

Shvedova advanced to the round of 16 in NY for the first time by beating Zhang Shuai 6-2, 7-5.

Nishikori, who has dropped a set in each of his matches so far, will take on Ivo Karlovic for a quarter-final berth after the towering Croatian defeated 19-year-old American Jared Donaldson 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 6-3. Yaroslava Shvedova was able to break Shuai Peng five times in ten attempts.
