Spiders invade Britain: Horny arachnids big as mice storm United Kingdom homes
Steve McGrail, from Pro-Kill Environmental, said there are not necessarily more spiders come September – but normally-reclusive males surface from their hiding places around homes to seek females to breed with. If you find them, it’s pretty much impossible to rid your house of them.

The spider infestation has already affected many households in the area over the past few weeks, with many reporting that the creatures are nearly as big as mice. Spiders are less likely to return to that spot if they know they no longer have a home and their offspring have been removed.
Cracks, crevices and gaps naturally open up around doors and windows – especially in kitchens, bathrooms or anywhere in the house that’s moist.
Additionally make sure you don’t miss those neglected nooks or crannies, because dark, undisturbed spaces are inviting to spiders.
Great news if you have a cat since they often use their natural hunting instincts to frighten spiders.
Also you may want to store your belongings in airtight containers rather than cardboard boxes if you want the creepy crawlies to stay away.
Last September, scores of people took horrifying pictures of giant house spiders they found lurking in their homes – some as big as 12cm long.
If you seal them, however, it will make life much more hard for them.
However when the weather cools down they will try to keep warm by getting inside your house.
Especially lemon or a lime, because they can help keep unwanted spiders away.
With more food for the spiders in your house it will encourage more to move in with you.
Spider experts also advise keeping windows closed and lights turned off – so spiders don’t get a good feed from any moths or other flying bugs that might come in.
You can make your own spray by mixing 10 to 15 drops of peppermint oil with water.

You can also put cedar-wood blocks in your garden and around possible “spider entrances”.
