Oklahoma QB Mayfield takes blame for loss to Houston
Each week we’ll review how the rest of USF’s conference mates did.

“Yes. I think at times Baker held on, instead of taking what was open and what was there on his first read, he was waiting for something different, something that takes a little bit longer to progress, and that’s not how the offense operates”. This was a significant game because it felt like an audition for the Cougars and their pursuit of joining the Big XII.
With the Big 12 looking for expansion candidates, a win against their previous conference champion could bolster the Cougars’ petition for an invite. Reminiscent of Auburn’s Kick Six against Alabama in 2013, Wilson came flying out of the end zone, hit the sideline and hurdled a fallen teammate to score what went into the books as a 100-yard return.
After having Florida Field named after him and then leading 90,000 rain-soaked fans in a pre-game cheer, Spurrier posed like Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt. In the meantime, it’s time to wait for Houston Twitter to completely ruin everyone’s love for Houston by being obnoxious jerks. They played a great game and caused Oklahoma to stumble.
But then came the second half when UH just dominated Oklahoma so badly that it obviously rattled the Sooners, especially on a drive where OU wasted two timeouts.
Meanwhile, P.J. Philip Walker had an absolutely disgusting game for Temple.
Rosen threw three interceptions while working under heavy pressure from a defense led by Myles Garrett. Two were on Temple’s last two possessions, the first of which Army converted for the game-clinching score. Herman’s name could keep popping up for bigger jobs … but Houston has promised to pay him $5 million a year if it joins the Big 12.
This looked like trouble in river city for awhile.
But UCLA’s offense finally got going after that, scoring twice in two minutes with the second one coming on a 62-yard pass by Rosen to cut it two 2. Mayfield at times looked hesitant to throw, and in one instance, he was sacked on a fourth-and-16 in the fourth quarter.
Side note: If you want to bet on the college football coach most likely to pull a June Jones and completely mail it in this year, Tommy Tuberville is the overwhelming favorite. They probably would have if Maine’s kicker wasn’t so college kicker-y. Then in the second half we did.
It arguably was the program’s biggest opener in history, but even that wasn’t enough to sway people into thinking that the Cougs could do anything to be competitive on Saturday.
Houston receiver Steven Dunbar tracked down seven of Ward’s attempts for a game-high 125 yards.
I’m not surprised TCU didn’t blow out South Dakota State.
The Knights still have problems at quarterback, where Justin Holman was only 12-for-24 passing.
The run game failed to impress, as well. However, in the second, he appeared to keep the ball too long almost every time he dropped back and was usually forced to scramble or throw it away.
However, on the game tape, he saw his kicker start too early and stutter-step. The 10-point win over No. 3 Oklahoma is the kind of beginning a Group of Five team needs to have a shot at the final four. When Smith went down, though, the call went out for Perry.
Even field goal Ty Cummings’ 45-yard field goal before the half, which gave the Cougars the lead for good, was a career long.
“I thought we settled down”. This game was absolutely appalling.
Two field goal attempts flipped the game’s complexion. I’ll have to watch the film to see. We were, I think, 9-for-9 throwing the ball. He also took a fourth-down sack to end the game.
“We’ve just got to keep pushing and keep improving”, Stoops said. He also threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Toneo Gulley.
Elsewhere around the league, West Virginia was forced to use the third string quarterback because of injuries to beat Missouri.
Greg Ward, Jr., led the day for Houston, hitting 23-of-40 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns, while Texas transfer Duke Catalon pounded out 88 yards on 22 carries.
THIS WEEK IN #MENPHIS: The start of the second half was delayed by 10 minutes because the power went out in the press box and in the Liberty Bowl’s surrounding area.
Texas A&M 31, No. 16 UCLA 24 (OT): Trevor Knight accounted for three touchdowns, including the deciding score in overtime, as Texas A&M upset No. 16 UCLA. Houston rallied to take a 13-10 lead, but Oklahoma ripped it right back on a 64-yard pitch-and-catch to a wiiiiiiide open Mark Andrews. Xavier Jones ran for 115 yards and a touchdown, and SMU’s defense intercepted Alec Morris three times.

Tulsa tops San Jose St. Keevan Lucas returned from the knee injury that ended his 2015 season to catch six passes for 112 yards. They scored two defensive touchdowns and led 38-7 at halftime.
