Vikings trade for quarterback Sam Bradford

“My initial reaction was I was surprised because it wasn’t on my radar, but that surprise eventually turned to excitement”, Bradford said in a conference call. However, Roseman said coach Doug Pederson would decide who starts against the Browns on September 11. He regretted the decision after the Eagles traded several draft picks to select Wentz.

Bradford has played a full 16-game season only twice in six years.

Until general manager Howie Roseman pulled the trigger on the blockbuster trade on Saturday that sent Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Sam Bradford to Minnesota, the Eagles had been attempting to, pardon the cliché, have their cake and eat it, too. “We felt like there had to be a significant price to pay for that …”

“Parting with the one, I knew I still had eight picks next year, including two threes and two fours”, Spielman said. The Eagles receive a first-round pick in 2017 and a fourth-round pick in 2018.

Bradford has been hampered by injuries throughout his career.

“I’m excited to be with Adrian”, Bradford said. I still wouldn’t rule out the Eagles competing or even winning a diluted NFC East because their front seven on defense has a chance to be that good. “It was Shurmur who convinced the organization that Bradford had the intelligence and the work ethic to learn Norv Turner’s offense quickly”. He’s been in the camps, and going from the get go. None other than Hill.

Bradford was never a great fantasy option in Philadelphia and things will stay the same in Minnesota. “And I think as we went through this process and spoke with all the teams … we felt this was a very rare and unique opportunity to add a quarterback of Sam’s caliber”.

Roseman also said that though the trade was directed toward improve the Eagles in the long term, he believes they can still contend in 2016 thanks to a strong core of veterans. His 3,725 yards passing in 14 games was the fourth-most in Eagles history, thriving down the stretch in coach Chip Kelly’s fast-paced scheme.

In Minnesota, Bradford will be reunited with his former offensive coordinator in St. Louis and Philadelphia, Pat Shurmur, who is the Vikings’ tight ends coach. After signing a new two-year, $36 million deal this offseason, he won’t play another snap for the Eagles. With Bradford no longer in Philly, that means the starting quarterback for the Eagles this season is either going to be Chase Daniel or Carson Wentz, two players who have started a combined two games in their National Football League careers.

When Bradford signed a contract to return to the Eagles in March, head coach Doug Pederson immediately anointed him the starter.

The Vikings accepted Bradford’s deal as-is, so he is set to earn a $7 million base salary in the 2016 season. Was it because Sitton refused to renegotiate his $6.5-million salary, in the past year of his contract? Sanchez, however, was beaten out by second-year pro Trevor Siemian, a seventh-round pick in 2015 from Northwestern.

Houston coach Bill O’Brien said Friday that Watt was doing much better than a couple of weeks ago and that it “looks decent” for him to play against the Bears.

Bridgewater suffered a dislocated left knee and torn ACL in a non-contact injury Tuesday at Winter Park and was placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Eagles fans chanted “We want Wentz” throughout the open practices at Lincoln Financial Field and during the first preseason game.

Sam Bradford is out, Carson Wentz appears to be in and Chase Daniel is neither out nor in.

The Vikings waived rookie quarterback Joel Stave on Saturday, leaving Bradford and Hill as the only quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.

In five seasons, Bradford has completed 60.1 percent of his passes for 78 touchdowns and 52 interceptions. During his college career at Oklahoma, Bradford won the Heisman Trophy in 2008 and was a redshirt freshman during Peterson’s final season with the Sooners. “I think the Vikings gave up a tremendous amount, but what they’re getting is infinitely better than [backup quarterback] Shaun Hill“.
