Speaking at his press conference, the USA leader said that he had “made very clear” that the United States was not going to roll back sanctions until the Minsk agreements, previously reached between Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France, were implemented.

The Prime Minister’s Office says he had five sit-down meetings on the sidelines of the summit with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the European Union, the OECD and Singapore.

The meeting of Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama went off well and lasted longer than planned.

The two leaders conversed on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Hangzhou for ninety minutes, a senior USA official said, and worked to clarify gaps in negotiations over on the Syrian crisis.

Xi said China opposed the USA deployment of the THAAD anti-missile system in South Korea to counter missile and nuclear threats from North Korea.

Mrs May said she hoped to visit China next year.

Obama stressed the importance of a deal, saying later that the current dynamic in Syria was allowing the regime of President Bashar al-Assad to bomb targets “with impunity” and permitting extremist groups to continue recruiting.

In 2003, North Korea tested an anti-ship missile during an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Bangkok. An “effort [to make the deal work] should increase in urgency over the next several weeks”, Obama said.

“Its curtains down on another Summit for this critical global forum”, he said.

The South China Post also reported the stairs were American, claiming that because the driver of the rolling staircase did not speak English, the US opted to use its own mechanisms for the president to exit the plane.

These policies should not only expand aggregate demand but also improve the quality of supply, Xi said.

“Growth drivers from the previous round of technological progress are gradually fading, while a new round of technological and industrial revolution has yet to gain momentum”, he said.

Xi Jinping told reporters that merely relying on fiscal and monetary policies does not work for the world economy.

Xi also called on G20 countries to match their words with actions.

“We are determined to break a new path for growth to inject new dynamism into the world economy”, Xi said, adding that a G20 Blueprint on Innovative Growth was unanimously adopted at the summit.
