Cold Feet characters coping with middle age as they return to screens

Having both had affairs, Karen (Hermione Norris) and David’s (Robert Bathurst) divorce was turning increasingly bitter until Rachel’s death forced them to re-evaluate their lives.

Almost 11 million viewers watched the funeral of Helen Baxendale’s character Rachel, who died in a road crash in the final series.

On the day of the wedding, Adam confided in his landlord Tina (Leanne Best) he was beginning to have second thoughts.

James said of Adam’s new quest for love: “Adam has always been quite impulsive in love”.

Cold Feet fans may recall the heady New Labour days when a naked Nesbitt wooed Helen Baxendale with a rose clenched between his buttocks (once seen never forgotten).

“In the new series it’s born out of a boat journey and then he falls instantly in love with Angela, played by Karen David. And she is a younger woman”.

The new series will pick up 13 years after the last left off, with the characters now pushing 50. And here I am back again all those years later.

So it was an especially cruel twist to kill her off when things were finally looking up for the couple, who had just found the flawless family home to buy.

The fifth series of the popular ITV comedy-drama aired in 2003, when over 11 million viewers in the United Kingdom tuned in to watch Rachel’s funeral after she died in a road crash.

The Bafta-winning show, which was created by Mike Bullen, has been broadcast in more than 30 countries, and remade for US, Italian, Czech Republic and Polish audiences.
